the one with the tattoo

my college roommate, eryn*, and i had some pretty crazy adventures together.  there was the time we took jazz dance (what?), found the dead chipmunk hanging by a noose in our fridge, and when she thought she had anthrax.  but lately i’ve been thinking about the time we almost got tattoos.  it was right after our first semester in college.  we had just sold our books back to the store and really wanted to do something fun with that money.  we decided to drive back to our hometown, just 45 minutes away, and get tattoos.  she drew out a cross that she wanted and i wasn’t sure what i wanted yet.  i figured i would know by the time i got there.  it was raining that day and eryn didn’t like driving in the rain so i drove her car to pick up another friend and we were off.  we were discussing tattoos that i could get and where to put her cross.  i don’t know how i didn’t see it but i noticed too late that facing us was a big yellow school bus with the stop sign out.  i slammed on the brakes but they locked and we slid on the wet road into the back of the truck in front of us.  the hood of the car accordioned-up…all i could see was hood!  the good news was that no one was hurt…bad news was that i wrecked my best friend’s car.  i kind of took that as a sign that i didn’t need to get a tattoo.  of course, eryn got the cross just two months later.  she didn’t get into a car accident.

and now, eight years later, i’m thinking about tattoos again (sorry mom).  i’m thinking something simple on my foot above my pinkie toe in a light pink ink because tattoos on feet fade easily.  what about yall?  anybody have a tattoo or want one?

*names have not been changed because let’s face it, we weren’t innocent

i definitely want a tattoo, though i haven’t completely sold james on the idea…my three ideas have been the Claddagh on my wrist, a pheonix on the inside of my forearm just below my elbow, or a rosary on my foot. the pheonix will come first, so far i’ve got james talked into that as a present for my 30th birthday, thats 2 years away, so i’m trying to talk him into something sooner!!

got one…and will be glad to show it to you! (in private) I can’t say that I regret it b/c I for sure don’t, but I will say that if I had to do over again, I might not do it. I still kind of want something small on my foot. But, I haven’t found or thought of anything that I want on me forever…that would be the reason for not knowing if I would do it over again. Wow…so as you can see, I’m not very decisive and obviously play both sides of the coin, so this wasn’t very helpful. hmmmm…sorry bout that!

hmmm…I would if I didn’t think I would have to explain it away every summer to all of the kiddos (and their parents) in the children’s ministry…probably not a good trend to start…If I got one…that’s where I’d want it though! I’ll got with you!

Hey Hannah! I too wanted a tattoo and still do. My philosophy was that they are permanent so I wanted to make sure I didn’t make the decision lightly. I decided that I would design something that had meaning to me and once designed I would hold onto it, look at it, and think about it for an entire year. If I changed my mind even once, it started over. In theory I would have gone to get mine back in 2006, I had been considering it since 2000. I haven’t gotten it. I became engaged that year and decided I needed to hold off on spending the money and now I am considering my hubby’s feelings about it too. If you have an idea that has meaning and you can live with forever, I say go for it! :)

Fashion statement? We all know what we loved to look at 10 years ago doesn’t usually bring the same feelings now.
Show our individuality? Everyone has one, so it is now more “fashion” than not.
Life statement? The way we live is the true statement of our life’s beliefs.
Many say they have one or are considering one, but no one has said, “Because_________”. So instead of “anyone have or want one”, how about “Why do you want one or have one?” I am not against them. Many of my close friends have some beautiful ones. Just curious.

Uh…remember the pierced belly button…the pierced eyebrow…..remember the regret statements that came later…or were the statements just for a mom’s ears. I must say though that NOW you are over 21, I am not paying for your insurance and I no longer own your body :)
(mother-daughter inside joke) Oh and I am documenting all of these experiences for my bedtime stories to my granbabies. I always said since your birth that I would write a book titled “The Adventures of Hannah”. I do love your adventures spirit Sunshine! Just remember….pinkie toes get wrinkley when they age too!!!

I think you should get a tramp stamp (sorry for any of you that have the whole lower back thing working…well…let’s be honest, that’s not working for anybody….but I digress) of something in chineese letters….or better yet….a butterfly! Wow….what does Clay think about you and a tattoo?

    Clay thinks…

    … bullseye! ;)

I’ve always wanted a Ichthys with a cross on the inside of it on my big toe. I went to have it done but the tattoo artist said he wouldn’t do it since it would fade and become not so pretty. I’m glad that I didn’t get it done – but I still would one day. Maybe… But James is pretty dead set on it.

I’ve thought about it, but then I think about how it will look on my 70 year old body, if I live that long! (not too pretty on wrinkled skin)

NO TATTOOS!…. If you get a tattoo, you will be written off…No response necessary. Thanks for playing. THINK before you INK.
